Adopting devicescape wifi stack paid off! Sabayon Linux 3.4 loop2b x86 and Sabayon Linux 3.4 loop2b x86_64 can now can make full use of the Dell1390 wlan adapter ( with Broadcom's bcm4311 chipset) on my Compaq Presario V3222AU notebook. This is the first Linux distro which managed to operate my notebook's Dell 1390 wlan adapter, out-of-the-box.
WPA-PSK and WEP encryption protocols worked out-of-the-box when you run Sabayon Linux 3.4 loop2b (32 or 64 bit versions) either from the hard disk or while in the Live DVD mode/sessions. Obviously, this success has been partly made possible by the bcm43xx_mac80211 module and the bcm43xx firmwares.
However, the stable Sabayon Linux 3.3 x86 and also Sabayon Linux 3.3 x86_64 can only managed to connect to my Prolink Adsl wifi router via WEP encryption protocol. Out-of-the-box! The Sabayon Linux 3.3 is still using the older bcm43xx module and the accompanying bcm43xx firmwares.
WEP encryption protocol is in session below using Sabayon Linux 3.4 loop2b x86 and x86_64. The connection is stable and speedy.
WPA-PSK encryption protocol is also in session below using the preview of Sabayon Linux 3.4 loop2b x86 and x86_64. No performance problem.
