Hurray !    I've  got my Fedora 7 test 1  DVD  iso  file   after 16 hours of downloading,  despite an erratic internet connection speed.  The connectivity was still  somehow  slightly affected by  the damaged submarine cable near Taiwan,  as a result of the  recent earthquake.  I have had   numerous experiences of   having bad downloads whenever the downloads went to a near stand-still.   Lucky me,  the  sha1sum  verification was okay.  The  Fedora  7 test 1 DVD which i made  also passed the  media checks !

Kudos to the Fedora project and its volunteers !    They are the heroes amongst us.  I had only realized that it had been 3 years since the release of Fedora core 1 when i was eagerly waiting for the Fedora 7 test 1 download to complete.    Just a recap, FC 6 was released last October 2006.    Fedora 7 should be out by  April  2007.  Meaning that the project has kept their promise of a 6-monthly release  of a new version.   For you information,  Fedora core 1 was released in Nov 2003.

Actually,  I started meddling with Redhat, when it was at version 7.3.    After 1-2 years, i had to turn  to  the affordable Fedora when Redhat changed its subscription model.  No more Redhat Network access for me !   Somehow, open source spirits saved the day.   RHEL rebuilds, Cent0S,  soothed  my  soul.   The thing was that the exchange rate was just too expensive for me to own a Redhat Enterprise Desktop.

Till today,  i  still  have strong admiration for  Redhat's logo and simple artwork. Well,  I did find some consolations in Fedora core.  This is because, it was  being bundled with latest stable packages.  The bleeding edge (rawhide) packages are also very attractive.    This  incident is  not surprising at all.   Not only Fedora core was an all-rounder,  it was also the honourable testbed for RHEL.   In order words, Redhat's enterprise distro's quality depended on Fedora core.  It  has to journey into new frontier in

order to justify its existence.
